ATA Carnet is Your Passport for Goods

The ATA Carnet is a unified international customs document that allows duty-free and tax-free temporary imports and exports of goods for up to one year. ATA Carnets are used by 90+ countries and territories for Professional Equipment (tools of the trade), Commercial Samples, and goods for Exhibitions or Trade Shows.

Why ATA Carnet?

The ATA Carnet helps US exporters of all sizes (in particular, micro, small, and medium size businesses) explore new markets, promote their goods and services, and attend trade shows and conferences.

Cost-effective: ATA Carnets streamline border processes, provide transparency and predictability, and save time and money.

Efficient: ATA Carnets can be issued prior to departure, processed in 24 hours, and used multiple times to bring goods into multiple countries during their period of validity.

Simple: ATA Carnets simplify the customs process with a single document and eliminate duties, taxes, and Temporary Import Bonds.

The ATA Carnet System

ATA is an abbreviation of the French and English words Admission Temporaire/Temporary Admission.

In 1961, The ATA Carnet Convention on temporary imports was adopted by the World Customs Organization to encourage world trade by reducing the barriers caused by varying national customs regulations. USCIB was appointed by the Treasury Department in 1969 to operate and manage the ATA Carnet system in the United States.

USCIB is the US National Guaranteeing and Issuing Association of ATA Carnets under a set of conditions established by the World Chambers Federation, a division of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC).
