During the months of February and March 2014, USCIB staff arranged meetings for members with Angela Ellard, House Ways and Means, and Chris Wilson, USTR Geneva; traveled to France and Holland to brief government and business groups on U.S. business TTIP views; organized a conference in Washington, DC with the OECD on Internet governance and privacy issues; hosted a meeting in Washington, DC for the OECD Director for Tax, Pascal Saint-Amans; had the FTC Chair Ramirez address the Competition Committee; represented USCIB and ICC at the Word Customs Organization; and much more.

Washington Update: December 2013 to January 2014
During the months of December 2013 and January 2014, USCIB staff represented U.S. business interests at the WTO Ministerial in Bali, met with Mark Linscott and Dawn Shackleford of USTR to discuss the completed trade facilitation agreement, finalized a trade and investment agenda for 2014, supported a revision of the 2002 OECD Security Guidelines, submitted comments on the operation and effectiveness of U.S. telecommunications trade agreements, gave a keynote address at a meeting of the Tax Executives Institute, presented member views in separate meetings at State on human rights and responsible agriculture investments, and much more.
Washington Update: October to November 2013
During the months of October and November, USCIB welcomed Kristin Isabelli as its new Director for Customs and Trade Facilitation; met with EU negotiators on TTIP in Brussels; published blogs on investment policy; organized workshops at the IGF; provided input to the OECD on its BEPS initiative; met with USTR on the trade facilitation negotiations; engaged State on the APEC Chemical Dialogue; co-hosted a forum in China; and much more.
Washington Update: June – July 2013
Summer has been anything but slow for us at USCIB. Over the past two months, our Washington, D.C. office has maintained an active schedule of briefings, advocacy and representation for – and on behalf of – our members.
Highlights include:
- our annual tax conference, held in concert with the OECD and BIAC, attended by more than 250 people
- an ICC conference at the Peterson Institute on moving forward in the WTO
- advocacy with Senate staff for passage of the Customs Reauthorization bill
- discussion of Internet Governance issues with a key State Department policy maker
- meetings with USTR to discuss the U.S. trade agenda as well as trade facilitation.
Washington Update: April – May 2013
Over the past two months, USCIB’s Washington office has maintained an active schedule of briefings, advocacy and representation for – and on behalf of – our members.
Highlights include:
- a comprehensive statement to USTR on the TTIP negotiations
- meeting with the Treasury on the OECD’s work base erosion and profit sharing
- launch of a new coalition to support Trade Promotion Authority
- testimony in support of the World Bank’s Doing Business Report.
Washington Update: February – March 2013
It has been a fast-paced first quarter of 2013 for the USCIB Washington office.
Among the highlights: We hosted meetings for members with Angela Ellard from House Ways and Means and with Pascal Saint-Amans, Head of the OECD Tax Directorate; met with Hill staff on customs reauthorization; spoke on a panel at an OECD conference on 21st century trade barriers; shared views with State and Commerce officials on Internet governance and privacy policy issues; and filed a submission with USTR on the International Services Agreement.
Washington Update: December 2012 – January 2013
The holiday season has come and gone, and USCIB’s Washington-based activities saw very little let-up.
Among the highlights: We released a groundbreaking new study by Professor Matthew Slaughter on global supply networks and economic growth; unveiled USCIB’s Trade and Investment Agenda for 2013; met with Senate Finance committee staff on customs reauthorization, participated in ICC’s work on EU Data Privacy; and advised the OECD Tax Committee on base erosion and profit sharing.
