SCIB President and CEO Whitney Baird spoke at the IOE General Council High-Level Panel, “Ensuring Business Resilience in Turbulent Times”, on May 31. The panel brought together business leaders to discuss policy measures that support business resilience, investment, and economic growth. Baird highlighted how regulatory uncertainty, policy fragmentation, and overlapping compliance requirements are creating significant challenges for businesses seeking to invest, grow, and create jobs. Baird emphasized the need for regulatory coherence, implementation of existing standards, and policies that reflect business realities rather than add new burdens.
Panelists included: Jose González-Ruiz, Secretary General of the Spanish Confederation of Business Organizations (CEOE); Khulekani Mathe, CEO, Business Unity South Africa (BUSA) South Africa; María Paz Jervis, Executive President, Chamber of Industries and Production (CIP) Ecuador; and Mark Birrell, Immediate Past President, Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI).
Globally, many companies are concerned about regulatory burdens, which can be costly for multinational companies and even detrimental for medium and small enterprises. The panelists underscored the value of simplification efforts in certain regions.
