USCIB is actively engaging in the 2025 UN Ocean Conference (UNOC3), held June 9–13 in Nice, France, to ensure US business plays a leading role in shaping global ocean policy. USCIB’s Ashley Harrington, Manager of Health and Sustainability, is participating in key discussions that drive science-based solutions and build partnerships to advance Sustainable Development Goal 14: Life Below Water.
Harrington was pleased to support two key events advancing global action on ocean health and plastic pollution during recent UN environmental convenings. At SC Johnson’s event, “The Human Side of Plastics,” Fisk Johnson, CEO of SC Johnson, delivered opening remarks emphasizing the company’s commitment to ending plastic pollution. The event showcased SC Johnson’s innovative efforts to provide sustainable alternatives, including the debut of Zuzu: The Little Crab on a Mission to End Plastic Waste, a creative campaign aimed at raising awareness and inspiring action.
Additionally, USCIB participated in Ocean Action Panel 4, titled “Preventing and significantly reducing marine pollution of all kinds, in particular from land-based activities.” The panel served as a critical lead-up to the upcoming INC-5.2 negotiations in Geneva this August, highlighting the urgency of reaching a global treaty to combat marine pollution. Member states and delegates shared national initiatives and voiced their priorities for protecting ocean ecosystems and reducing pollution at its source.
