On June 6, the USCIB DC office hosted the 3rd annual OECD – Business at OECD (BIAC) – USCIB Anti-Illicit Trade discussion around the work policy program of the OECD Working Party on Countering Illicit Trade (WP-CIT), where its work to quantify, characterize, and increase the global understanding of emerging challenges in illicit trade through evidence-based research helps industry address those challenges in a strategic, coordinated, and more effective manner.
During the USCIB and BIAC discussion, USCIB introduced the new BIAC Anti-Illicit Trade Expert Group (AITEG) leadership, as well as priority topics including the value of public-private partnerships in this critical anti-illicit trade space, clean and transparent Free Trade Zones (FTZs), with a focus on the implementation of the OECD Recommendation and certification scheme, draft voluntary Guidelines on Online Marketplaces, non-counterfeit illicit products, and health and pharmaceuticals. This was a great opportunity to build on previous in-person meetings during OECD visits to Washington, DC.
USCIB Senior Director of Customs and Trade Facilitation Megan Giblin was joined in-person by OECD’s Piotr Stryszowski, Leonor Sanhueza, and Nikolaus Thumm, and USCIB AITC Chair Jennifer Lane. The meeting was joined remotely by BIAC AITEG lead Emma Brierley, newly announced BIAC AITEG Chair Susan Wilson at Intel and Vice Chair Monika Ramirez of ABinBEV, as well as USCIB and BIAC members.
USCIB looks forward to continued engagement and collaboration with BIAC, AITEG members, and the OECD in advance of the 2026 OECD Working Party on Countering Illicit Trade meeting and the 2026 OECD Forum on Countering Illicit Trade which will take place on March 16-18th, 2026.
