USCIB joined other US business groups to send a letter to the Trump administration strongly encouraging it to prioritize continued US government participation and engagement in certain international treaty-making forums that focus on the regulation of chemicals, products and waste.
The letter was sent in light of the upcoming sessions of the Basel, Rotterdam, and Stockholm Conventions (BRS), where negotiations pertaining to chemicals, products and waste will continue. US government participation and engagement in these negotiations is crucial to ensure that US interests are adequately represented and to advance our shared priorities of strengthening US economic prosperity, national security, and overall competitiveness.
The letter states: “It is important that the US leads global negotiations and that US companies are not subject to unfair or unworkable standards agreed to by competitor governments without American input and leadership.”
The Basel Convention, the Rotterdam Convention, and the Stockholm Convention (BRS), will convene for respective sessions of their Conferences of the Parties (COPs) from April 28 to May 9 in Geneva, Switzerland.
