USCIB Statement on Tariffs

Washington DC, March 4, 2025—The US Council for International Business (USCIB) seeks a swift resolution to the tariff actions taken today against Canada and Mexico. The 25 percent duties and retaliatory measures will have a destabilizing impact on supply chains, economic growth, and the geostrategic benefits of an integrated North American market achieved under the Trump Administration’s US-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).

Tariffs increase the cost of manufacturing in the United States, raise prices on US consumers, leave US businesses with less to reinvest into company growth, and hamper the ability of US companies to compete fairly against global competitors. While we recognize the importance of addressing illegal migration and drug flows, we must find solutions in cooperation with our trading partners that do not destabilize the North American market and harm US competitiveness.

—Whitney Baird, President and CEO, US Council for International Business
